The Peasant's Dance
Men's Garment Myths
Myth: Shirts can be worn alone with no doublet or jerkin, especially
without sleeves.
Wearing just a shirt, or shirt and doublet/jerkin without sleeves, is
seen in images of field laborers. It is not seen in images of people in
towns or gatherings.
Also notice the people are carrying minimal items on their belts. A pouch
and a single key, a knife, a pouch alone. You don't have to carry everything
on your body.
The Peasant's Dance, by Pieter Bruegel, c.1568.
