Full View of An Unknown LadyAn Unknown Lady by Francois Quesnel, c.1570. (Kunstindustrimuseet, Oslo) This one may not specifically qualify as a French hood, because it does overshadow her forehead, instead of sitting further back on the head. However, it does afford an inside peak into the lining of the hood. The top fabric is obviously a dark material, while the underside is white or nearly so. I would also suggest that the form is wired in the front, or stiffened internally, as it stands away from the head and is definintely shaped.
