Detail of A Man Confessing

A Man Confessing. Book of Hours, vol. 3 fol. 51v. Illuminated by Master of James IV of Scotland, Probably Ghent, c. 1500. Collection: Vatican City, Biblioteca Apostilica Vaticana, Vat. lat. 3770

“... showing a nobleman offering confession to a priest while a noblewoman, her back to the viewer, kneels in prayer.”

It is interesting to note that the hood the woman is wearing has a liripipe (a distinctly medieval fashion) on the back of it.
