This
wool gown was designed to be a mockup for another project in silk. I wanted
to work out any problem areas before making it up in finer fabrics. I
had been collecting images of short gowns for some time, and finally gave
it a go. This wool gown is meant to be worn over my simple
linen kirtle in warmer weather, when it gets a little cooler in the
evenings but not cold enough to require a full coat.
The gown is made from stash materials. The blue wool is soft herringbone
twill. The yellow in the sleeve lining, lining the bodice, and facing
the open edges of the skirt is a cotton sheeting remnant. The skirt is
otherwise lined in cotton muslin, and the bodice is interlined in a firm
linen fabric.
The photo
album includes the inspiration images I used for this short gown design,
one for the body and one for the sleeve design, along with a few photos
I took of the process and final images.
