Man's Blue Velvet Henrician Ensemble:

Detail of Codpiece

Close up view of the codpiece of the client's pants (it was on a dress dummy at the time). The codpiece in a simpler form is simply used to hide the front opening of the breeches. Over time it developed into a male showpiece of masculinity, and was widely worn by men during the time period of the early to mid sixteenth century.

The gold cord on the codpiece was sewn on by hand.
