The Conversion of St. PaulDetail from The Conversion of St. Paul, Pieter Brueghel the Elder, 1567. Kunsthistorisches Museum. Normally, I would not have an image from a much later date, but the style of the garments being worn are similar to what was worn by the Tudor men earlier in the century. This is a Flemish painting, by a master known and studied for the great detail of the peasants and peasant life he painted. My interest are in the two gentlemen riding the horses in the center front, and on the left. Notice the fullness of the pleats in the back, and the split in the center back of the yellow garment. The hat and the striped coif? under the hat are similar to style of headwear from the 1530s in Francois' court. See this image for the coif.
