Detail from The Field of Cloth of GoldThe Field of Cloth of Gold, artist unknown, 1540-50? I have chosen to focus on the common people enjoying the free wine, as images of women are seen here. The left side of the painting shows the men, especially the King and his retinue of Lords and military guard. While the events actually took place in June, 1520, this painting was not created until much later in Henry's reign, or perhaps after his death. So the garment styles in this painting cannot be acurately stated as any specific time frame. It is representative of the Tudor style in general during this time. For more information on this incredible event in history, and info on the dating of the painting, please see Alecto Historical Editions, "The Field of the Cloth of Gold".
